Why game design schools? Computer games aren't just two dimensional drawings that move and explode. They are now complicated, simulated and a billion dollar industry that you simply have to make them heart-pumping, fist-pounding and complex enough to constantly attract players.
That's how video game design schools evolved. It takes a different mindset to be able to create and develop computer games given their very dynamic and engaging nature. Game development or a game design program are relatively new computer degree programs, which, after three or four years, leads to a bachelor degree. It's part technical, part creative and requires a strong computer programming foundation.
What they offer
At the Art Institutes, which has campuses around the United States and Canada, there is a separate program for Game Art and Design and another for actual Game Programming. The former teaches you to breathe life into a game concept, through modeling, scene and set design, motion capture, animation and texture mapping. Under Game Programming, the technical aspects are meshed with the creatives : coding, production, artistic concepts and game play strategies.
ITT Institute, also located nationwide, offers a Digital Entertainment and Game Design degree. You become familiar with gaming technology, gaming design, process, animation, and level design.
Westwood College also has its own versions: Bachelor- Game Art & Design, which includes subjects like Color Theory, 3-D Modeling and Animation and Cinematography; and Bachelor-Game Software Development, which focuses on software engineering fundamentals and game software development.

Game development and design is undoubtedly an exciting and lucrative career. Game design schools are probably equal to or even better than a robotics school, which focuses on another specialization under computer science. There are plenty of opportunities in this field, and sometimes, you don't even need to be part of an organization to create your own computer game and hit it big time.
Computer degree programs are providing students with so many options to build rewarding and fulfilling careers. Computers have had such a tremendous impact on our daily lives, and most everything that we use is backed by technology.
