Cad Schools

CAD schools are gateways to a career in drafting and design utilizing computers. Computer-aided drafting and design (CAD or CADD) is among the entry level computer degree programs that can prepare you for employment in as little as two years.

Training to be provided within the coursework of CAD schools will give you the necessary skills to become functional and proficient in drafting and design in fields such as architecture, engineering and manufacturing.

Why go CAD School?

Technology has allowed the simplification of the design process, while making it more precise and economical. The result is a higher standard of output, accomplished at a faster rate.

CAD schools not only train you in the use of a specialized software or program to create diagrams for items to be manufactured or technical and engineering designs, but they also teach you to think critically and apply these in the process of designing.

CAD is more than just computer programming training. To begin with, you must already have a strong background in mathematics, physics and the arts, which are basics in the profession. A CAD output is not merely a sketch, but more importantly must convey vital information such as materials, processes, and dimensions that will be applied in the final implementation to produce a product or complete a design.

Computer-aided drafting is used by architects and engineers to create floor plans or construction drawings that will detail electrical, mechanical and structural information to help in the development of a building or structure.

Computer-aided design systems are used to create detailed two-or three-dimensional models of actual objects that may be physical components of parts used to complete a bigger product or structure.

The opportunities

CAD schools offer to learning students associate degree programs either on-site or online. After completing the university course, in which you would have become adept at using the AutoCAD program, you can initially find work as a drafter and engage in mechanical drafting, piping drafting, architectural and construction drafting, civil drafting, interior design, illustration and design detailing.

Eventually, with continuing education, you can work as CAD designer or CAD engineers in the field of naval and aerospace development, landscape design and engineering, interior design, mechanical, electrical or civil engineering and even for environmental design.

The salary for drafters with CAD degrees ranged from $33,102 to $43,715. With continuing education and accumulated years of experience, expect an increase in remuneration. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics noted the growth potential for CAD degree holders is not as attractive as others in the field of computer technology.

Some schools and universities with engineering and the arts as their core programs have incorporated CAD degree programs in their line-up. You may check out:

Westwood College
Anthem
The Art Institutes
ITT Technical Institute

Aside from CAD schools, an associate degree through online computer degree programs or trainings offered via CD/DVD is available for prospective drafters.
